The name of this association is the EUROPEAN RESEARCH GROUP ON MILITARY AND SOCIETY, acronymed ERGOMAS. The association was founded 1986. ERGOMAS is an association of social scientists who study and analyze the relationship between the military and society, and related phenomena. Joint transnational research and intercultural comparisons in thematically oriented interdisciplinary working groups constitute the core of ERGOMAS.
ERGOMAS promotes empirically and theoretically oriented European research cooperation and international scientific communication. The plurality of topics dealt with by the working groups, the frequency of international study sessions, and the publications produced, as well as the expansion of its geographical coverage (already 1995 scholars from twenty-four countries were enrolled) attest to the validity of the association.
ERGOMAS is a public, non-profit, politically and ideologically independent professional organization of scientists. Its purposes shall be pursued by the activity of Working Groups and the Biennial conference.
